Air India has expanded its collaboration with Amadeus to incorporate local domestic content, making it available for travel sellers at points of sale throughout India via the Amadeus Travel Platform.
As part of the agreement, Air India’s NDC content will be incorporated into the Amadeus Travel Platform and made accessible to travel agents by 2024. The travel industry community will benefit from increased choice, flexibility, and retailing options as a result. Through the use of NDC technology, Air India will be able to further improve the way that customers shop by offering richer content and better upselling opportunities for its branded and ancillary products.
Nipun Aggarwal, Chief Commercial & Transformation Officer, Air India expressed that India stands as one of the world’s fastest-growing aviation markets, driven by its rapidly expanding economy. This growth has opened up travel opportunities for a larger population than ever before. She adds, “Across platforms, Air India will be able to showcase its products on a global scale, access new markets, and grow its customer base. Our relationship with Amadeus is a key part of this process, and we are delighted to be expanding the scope of our partnership today.”
Javier Laforgue, Executive Vice President, Travel Unit & Managing Director, Asia Pacific, Amadeus comments: “This is a major milestone in our distribution strategy and retailing journey with the airline. India is an important market for Amadeus, and we look forward to continuing our close collaboration with the nation’s flag-carrier.”
Air India launched Vihaan.AI, a historic transformation program to revamp its operations, products, and services, with a five-year roadmap to significantly increase its market share, following its acquisition by Tata Group. The airline has committed to fully renovating its current fleet of widebody aircraft and has placed record orders for 470 new narrowbody and widebody aircraft. Additionally, a new global brand identity was recently unveiled.
The deepened collaboration between Air India and Amadeus builds upon a prior agreement made in 2022. During that time, Air India embraced the complete Amadeus Altéa Passenger Service System Suite (PSS) to enhance its customer interfaces.
