According to David Collado, the Dominican Republic’s Tourism Minister, July saw arrival of 792,981 non-resident visitors, which broke previous records set in July and December of 2022 and surpassed the monthly threshold of 700,000 for the first time.

According to Collado, 140,475 Dominicans who were going from one region to another made up the remaining 652,506 visitors in July 2023.

In all, the increases show a growth in July visitor numbers of 34% over 2019 levels, 41% over 2021 levels, and 8% over 2022 levels.

The Dominican Republic had an increase in tourists in July, and it also welcomed 148,560 cruise ship passengers.

The Dominican Republic had 1,416,011 cruise passengers between January and July, something never seen before in the history of tourism, according to Callado.

In the first seven months of the year, the Dominican Republic welcomed 6,295,667 visitors (4,879,656 land-based tourists and 1,416,011 cruise passengers), marking the nation’s first time ever reaching that number, Callado added.

54 percent of July 2023 arrivals originated in the United States, while 8 percent came from Canada, 5 percent from Puerto Rico, and 3.7 percent came from Colombia.

In related news, JetBlue executives reported this week that 40% of flights from the Dominican Republic to the United States are run by the airline as it looks to increase operations there.

According to Hayes, the carrier wants to expand its “strength, services, and operations” in the Caribbean country.
