Tourist traffic in Antalya, one of Turkey’s highlighted holiday spots on the Mediterranean Coast exceeds 4.3 million since the beginning of the year.

The COVID pandemic dealt a blow to the province’s tourism industry last year. This year the hotels and other accommodation venues are adopting necessary measures under the Safe Tourism Certificate Program. This will ensure backpackers a safe stay during vacation.

According to data collected from the local tourism authority, a total of 4.35 million tourists flew into the Antalya province between Jan 1st and Aug 15th amidst the pandemic. This marks a significant 203% hike in the same period of 2020.

In the list of visiting tourists, Russia stands at the foremost. According to data, about 2 million Russian tourists travelled to Antalya during this period.

Russia suspended regular and charter flights to Turkey in mid-April due to COVID restrictions. Russian tourists started coming to Turkey after a 2 months’ break on June 22.

More than 957,000 tourists arrived in Antalya from Aug 1st till Aug 15th. It is a staggering increase of 203% from what it was a year ago.

During the first 15 days of August, airplanes brought in about 64,000 tourists to Antalya.

Throughout 2020, Antalya welcomed an approximate number of 3.3 million foreign tourists. This accounted for about 26% of overseas traffic in Turkey.

In 2019, however, the number of foreign tourists holidaying in the province was 14.6 million.
