Antalya enjoys record tourist footfall in January-February 2020

Known all over the world as an exclusive destination that provides a combination of charming nature along with history, Antalya experienced it’s best-ever January and February months in regards to the number of visitors it accommodated.

 

In the initial two months, Antalya received 388,994 tourists. This was a 30% rise compared to the same time a year before, as per data gathered by the Antalya Provincial Directorate of Culture and Tourism. Antalya welcomed around 299,176 tourists in January and February 2018.

 

The winter season is better known as a dead season; nevertheless, double-digit growth in foreign tourist numbers in the initial two months of this year was greeted by the sector, the governor of the southern resort city of Antalya, Münir Karaloğlu, said.

 

In 2019, Antalya shattered the tourist record, hosting more than 15 million tourists and for 2020, taking firm steps toward its target of 18 million.

 

Antalya is mainly famous among Russian tourists. Data from the first two months of 2020 have shown that in January and February 2019, almost 69,000 Russians visited Antalya. This year, the number of Russian tourists in the first two months of the year have reached 103,094 mark, creating almost an almost 50% rise annually. Russian tourists comprise 31.4% of the total number of visitors during the time frame. Some 5.5 million Russians came to the country in 2019.

 

In the two-month period, Germans ranked second at about 99,625 tourists, marking a 35.4% growth in their numbers too.

 

Nevertheless, the city has been luring greater number of visitors from countries like Netherlands, Belgium, France, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Iran, Jordan, Cyprus, Norway, Australia and Azerbaijan. Visitors from Netherlands totaled 8,201, with Jordan on the heels at 6,126 and Belgium with 5,149 visitors.

 

Often considered as the “tourism capital” of Turkey, Antalya has been a center of interest for time immemorial for tourists keen to take pleasure in all the immaculate Mediterranean beaches along with the rich history of the region that has been home to innumerable civilizations.
