Lilly Ajarova will officially take over the charge of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) as its new Chief Executive Officer. She talked about her plans concerning Uganda’s tourism industry.
She comes in at a time when the Ugandan government’s interest in the local tourism sector is probably at its highest level.
Ajarova said that she is excited about being the CEO of Uganda Tourism Board, since it offers quite a big but a good challenge for her. She said that Uganda’s natural heritage is quite enormous. Tourism presents a huge opportunity for Uganda’s economy and there is opportunity to network and lobby the right people to make sure that Uganda progresses this sector forward.
Ajarova said that it is important to have a clear plan on what needs to be done. The government would want to put resources where it expects a good return on investment.
Now, tourism is an independent ministry with two ministers and support staff who provide oversight and policy direction in the industry. This means that the government recognizes the importance of the tourism sector. There is also the Uganda Tourism Board, which is the institution mandated to market the country as a tourism destination.
