Wego, which is the largest online travel marketplace in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), made a partnership with ‘Visit Maldives’ to propel more Middle East travel to the Maldives.

After temporarily shutting down its borders for restricting the spread of COVID-19, Maldives reopened borders for all international travelers on 15th July last year. Tourists are not required to quarantine upon arrival; however, they would require submitting an online health declaration form within 24 hours before departure and are requested to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test result taken within 96 hours before departure.

During the month of February, the ministry of tourism in Maldives witnessed record-breaking numbers with 96,881 arrivals which is indicative that the country is on its way for tourism recovery.

The Maldives has been handling the outbreak very well, getting the “Safe Travels Stamp” by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), as recognition for its efforts to implement better health and safety measures. It also started the vaccination drive across the country on 1st February.

This partnership will focus on promoting the Maldives as one of the most preferred destinations within the market with the help of content led campaigns across digital and social media platforms along with virtual activities lined up.

Thoyyib Mohamed, Managing Director of Visit Maldives said, “With the Middle Eastern market showing great promise and arrival numbers post the lock-down period, launching a joint marketing campaign with Wego – one of the most prominent & well-known establishments within the region – is sure to generate conversion numbers that can show an even stronger shift from the GCC region towards our island-nation. This campaign would also ensure that the Maldives is promoted not just as a romantic destination, but a holiday getaway for families & single travellers as well. We are definitely delighted to commence this collaboration and hope that our efforts in marketing Maldives will be successful.”

Travelers can enjoy a flawless travel experience in the naturally distanced nature of the islands with stringent safety measures ensuring safety for travelers.

With a total of 1,196 islands, the Maldives offers the world’s most romantic island destination, with exquisite activities and packages including island hopping, visiting local villages to surfing, dolphin spotting, scuba diving, snorkeling among a wide array of water and adventure activities at its mesmerizing beaches and water villas with turquoise blue sea around which is replete with an abundance of sea life.
