As Michele Saran and her colleagues prepare for another tourism season during a pandemic, she said that the only thing certain right now is the insecurity that everyone faces.
The CEO of Tourism Nova Scotia said that COVID-19, which last year cost the industry more than $1.5 billion, is witnessing the members of the sector once again preparing for a year with lot less visitors and less revenue than normal times.
The 2021 cruise ship season has already been canceled, air travel is grounded and the land border between Canada and the U.S. remains constrained for the near future as both countries aspire to bring the pandemic under control.
This means that like last year, the focus will be on whatever markets are open.
“It’s less about targeting a specific type of traveler from our former export markets and more about providing life support to the industry from any market that has access and is deemed safe for us,” Saran said in an interview.
The Crown Corporation launched a new winter marketing campaign last week that was aimed particularly at Nova Scotians, motivating them to travel within the province this winter.
