The autumn is one of the best times to visit the country to witness the change of colors and scenic extravaganza amid a pleasant weather. Take a look at some of the top destinations in the U.S. to organize a autumnal trip enjoy the fall season to the fullest.


North Carolina

North Carolina is a wonderful destination to witness the fall season unfold in the U.S. Travelers can enjoy a drive across the Blue Ridge Mountains and sweep past parts of the National Park System. The route stretches across 750 kilometers linking Shenandoah National Park in Virginia with the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. The journey encompasses scenic fall landscape, picnic areas and autumnal campgrounds. Tourists can relish the fall colors along hiking trails and witness fresh foliage atop Linville Gorge or Grandfather Mountain. The autumnal scenery can also be seen while enjoying a car or motorcycle drive around the area.


Arkansas

Arkansas is often regarded as one of best places in the U.S. to witness the fall foliage. Often known as one of the best autumnal destinations in the country, travelers are likely to flock to the state to enjoy the sweater weather and the beautiful colors once. From late September to mid-October the hardwood trees shimmers in red, orange, yellow and gold against the mountainous backdrop. The Appalachian Trail links eight overnight huts in the White Mountains ideal for visitors looking spend their autumn vacation in the lap of nature. Meanwhile, The Conway Scenic Railroad enters the colorful kaleidoscope from North Conway in Boston, Massachusetts. Backpackers and road travelers can climb up the mountains on the Kancamagus Highway and take in the sights at one of its many roadside stops. Visitors can also view the fall foliage the backside porch of the grand Omni Mount Washington Resort and cherish the color-splashed beauty of the cloud-snagging Mount Washington.


New Mexico


The Southwest USA also offers great fall foliage for visitors. The ideal place to begin an autumnal trip in New Mexico is the Enchanted Circle. This 83-mile drive connects the towns of Taos, Eagle Nest, Red River, and Questa with incredible fall views wrapped in yellow, orange and red. The route goes through 13,161 sq. ft. Wheeler Peak, which is also New Mexico’s highest point. The mesas and mountains offer a unique southwestern perspective on fall foliage. While aspen trees are the most popular, there are also purple cinquefoil and cottonwoods ranging from red to yellow. In northern New Mexico, the sun illuminates the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with crisp clarity. From the 137-kilometer Enchanted Circle Byway travelers can witness a surprising collision of red oaks, yellow cottonwoods and green pines with swaths of golden-leaved Aspen trees. Tourists can also visit gateway city of Taos and enter the byway that parallels Río Grande del Norte National Monument and its graceful suspension bridge. The area has abundant of mountain trails ideal for both hikers and drivers. Visitors can also looping back to Taos, detour to Pilar and New Mexico Highway 570 to drive past yellow cottonwood trees along the Río Grande.


California

California offers abundant of options to witness the raw beauty of Mother Nature in the fall. The Eastern Sierras presents a visual ensemble with its deep-blue lakes, glacier-carved canyons, jagged peaks and wild geologic formations alongside the fall foliage. More the 300 kilometers of road stretches across the Sierra Nevada Mountains filled with golden aspens and yellow cottonwoods that add bursts of autumn color. The Eastern Sierra Scenic Byway also runs beside the eastern base of the Sierras on United States Highway 395, east of Yosemite National Park and presents a wide array of striking autumnal views.


Montana

Yet another destination in the U.S. that offers beautiful views of the autumn season is Montana. The remote northern Montana paints itself with colors of the fall from early October to mid-November. The area is also quaint around this time with deserted trails, crowd-free campgrounds and shuttered lodges. Standing in Montana’s northern tier is the Glacier National Park that is often considered to be one of the best places to witness fall foliage. The park encompasses one million acres of glacial-carved valleys and mountainsides that starts displaying foliage by the end of September. Tourists can see beautiful larch trees turn bright gold contrasted nicely next to evergreens, yellow aspens flanked by snowy backdrops as well as green pines and firs. As autumn begins to fade away in Montana, the rust-orange colors appear, foraging wildlife and prepping to usher in the winter season.
