Cyprus witnesses record tourist arrival in August 2018

Based on the results of the Passengers Survey, tourist arrival reached 534.847 in August 2018 in comparison to 523.651 in August last year, recording an increase of 2, 1%. Last month of this year had the highest volume of tourist arrivals recorded ever in Cyprus during the specific month. For the time between January – August 2018, tourist arrival totaled 2.719.622 compared to 2.517.887 during the same period of 2017, recording a jump of 8, 0% and outnumbering the total arrivals ever recorded in Cyprus during the first eight months of the year.

 
Analysis of changes
From Sweden, tourist arrivals increased by 13,1% in August 2018 compared to August 2017 as an increase of 9,1% was recorded for tourists from Greece. As opposite to that, a drop of 0,9% in tourist arrivals from the United Kingdom, 5,2% decline from Russia, 20,7% decrease from Israel and 9,4% decrease from Germany were recorded. Percentage alters from one year to the following for the main countries of usual residence of tourists.

 
Main countries
The United Kingdom constantly becomes the main source of tourism for Cyprus for August 2018, with a proportion of 34,4% as Russian arrivals comprise 21,2% of total arrivals, from Israel 7,8% and from Sweden 3,9% (Table 2).

 
Purpose of visit
For a percentage of 88,3% of tourists, the main reason of their trip in August 2018 was holidays, for 9,7% visit to friends and relatives and for 1,9% business.
