The leading low-cost carrier of Kuwait, Jazeera Airways, on all of its flights, of late launched sustainable food service ware across its network of 64 destinations.
They have changed from plastic made tableware to 100% biodegradable forks, spoons, knives and napkins. Every month, the airlines reduced 300 kilograms of plastic on its flights. The cutlery made by Palmade®, a Dubai based company, is made from natural materials like date palm leaves. All of them have been certified as biodegradable and compostable. Jazeera switched from plastic stirrers to wood
made stuffs earlier in the year, as a part of its sustainable practices.
In the Middle East, the airline is the first low-cost carrier to change from plastic made to eco-friendly food service ware in-flight. The Chief Executive Officer, Rohit Ramachandran, Jazeera Airways, said that as a low-cost carrier, they’ll have to be sensible in terms of cost in their business, however, they are also watchful of their moral, social and environmental accountability.
In the past couple of years, they have adopted measures towards sustainability and carry on staying focused on decreasing or counteracting their carbon emissions. Altering to biodegradable service ware is yet another small step that they are anticipating will create larger impact.
