2023 to break Spain’s tourism spending records of 2019

In 2023, tourism spending in Spain is likely to surpass the 2019 record. Recent data from the Spanish tourism office, Turespaña states this.

Such data also show that among these European markets, Spain remains the top choice for the United Kingdom. It surpasses France and Germany.

The current year is likely to conclude with international arrivals. It nearly matches the pre-pandemic figures.

Tourism spending may exceed 2019 levels as per Schengen Visa portal reports.

The German market has already surpassed 2019 spending by almost seven per cent, as Spain has welcomed 93 per cent of German tourists compared to the same period in 2019.

Data from Turespaña reveal that after the pandemic, Spain will regain its status as the main international destination for French tourists.

This resurgence in popularity can be attributed to changes in consumer behaviour that have led to increased spending within this market.

The Italian market in March already exceeded pre-pandemic levels. Italians are diversifying their destinations and travel motivations to Spain.

It is supported by the excellent connectivity between our two countries.

The Nordic countries are progressively increasing their trips to Spanish destinations with a slight overall growth. This trend that may continue in 2024.

Regarding long-haul markets, the US stands out as the leading non-EU contributor to tourism spending in Spain.

In addition, it may continue its growth trajectory during the upcoming winter season.

In 2023, Ibero-American markets have significantly boosted their spending in Spain, marking a 58 per cent increase compared to 2019.

Basque Country securing the fifth position as the top region to explore in the coming year.
