Puerto Rico tourismThe Puerto Rico Tourism Company or PRTC has recently declared a spike in terms of visitors all over the island over the Easter and Passover holidays and Spring Break.

From the island of Culebra off the northeast coast to the southwest region of Cabo Rojo, tiny inns owned by families to major hotels throughout the destination, along with San Juan, were busy with huge crowds taking a pleasure in the beaches, other different attractions and nightlife over the long weekend, according to the PRTC.

“We’ve been encouraging travelers since late December to visit and see first-hand our comeback for themselves,” said Carla Campos, acting executive director of the PRTC, in a written release.

With figures highlighting record-breaking performance between 130 hotels that are welcoming visitors at present, the tourism outlook appears very positive for the rest of 2018. Responsible for contributing almost 10 percent of the GDP, tourism is not only crucial to the economy of the Island, it’s simultaneously a cornerstone of Governor Ricardo Rosselló Nevares’ economic development agenda.

“Alongside the reminder that one of the best ways people can support Puerto Rico is by visiting – staying at hotels, eating at restaurants, enjoying our Island’s activities, and buying from local businesses, our ‘we’re open for tourism’ message is being heard loud and clear,” said Campos.

The Wyndham Rio Mar in Rio Grande on the northeast coast of the island experienced a historical weekend, in terms of never reached before occupancy and sales levels on the whole, according to the PRTC. They greeted hundreds of travelers who took part in the yoga classes on-site, holiday festivities all through the resort and tours to part of the nearby El Yunque, the largest tropical rainforest in the U.S.
