For the guesthouse industry, a training programme is to be organized to set up a compliance standard that would bring in more confidence among tourists who visit the Maldives.
On Sunday morning, the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Abdulla Mausoom, declared about this training program at a press conference, mentioning that the training will be conducted together with the European Institute for Export Compliance (EIFEC) and Maldives National University (MNU).
Noting the importance of such a programme especially amid the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the minister said that this is a good opportunity to overcome the obstacles within the industry.
As the European Union (EU) kept Maldives out from the list of countries permitted to travel EU after temporary lifting of ban on non-essential travel, the tourism minister said “we need to show Europe the standard of our tourism sector”.
Emphasizing the fact that having such international certificates will actually boost up guests’ confidence, Mausoom requested all such businesses to take part in the said training programme.
As the training programme is open for 830 participants, 630 are to represent guesthouses and 200 spots have been assigned for the local councils.
EIFEC stated that the compliance officer training programme is one of its “early contributions to Maldives’ efforts as a country combatting the Covid-19 pandemic in a way that would ultimately be beneficial to the Maldivian economy and its people’s livelihood”.
Also, virtually this free-training will be organized, and is set to start on October 20, until November 3.
