BVI considers diversifying tourism

Premier and the Minister of Tourism Dr.Natalio Wheatley said while highlighting the requirement offorceful strategies for increasing revenue for the economy for the territory, that his government is thinking todepend on theaccustomed tourism industry for dealing with themonetary challenges that the Virgin Islands is facing at the moment.


Dr. Wheatley stated that his government has held many discussions regardingfocusing more on the tourism sector and also how tobranch out it for luring more visitors to the territory.


He opined that the Virgin Islands is in front ofmany challenges in the financial services segmentalong with the tourism sector, which are the two main supportsfor maintaining the BVI’s economy.


Dr. Wheatley saidthat these are the challenges that they are able to overcome due to theirstrength and resistance.He said that they have done a decent job in these sectors since they have beenhardy and there is need toexpandtheir tourism product and branch outthe economy.


The Tourism Minister of BVI said that visitors have also stated their views regarding making it stress-free to visit the BVI, as at present, there is dearth of direct flights from most important tourist markets to the territory.


Dr. Wheatley added that it is providing air transport to the BVI, direct flights from the US and they are seeing the impact that it has on other authorities.
