Zimbabwe has reopened the Victoria Falls land border with Zambia for tourists who are fully vaccinated for letting smooth flow of tourists between the two neighboring countries. The development comes after successful rollout of a vaccination drive that witnessed more than 60 percent of residents in the border town of Victoria Falls being vaccinated.
Victoria Falls town is home to the mighty Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe’s major tourist destination, and one of the world’s seven natural wonders. The adjoining Kazungula border post with neighboring Botswana has also reopened, with majority of visitors being vaccinated.
However, in spite of the reopening of tourist activities in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe remains under Level 4 lockdown with other land borders remaining closed.
After requests from tourism players, the cabinet considered reopening the two border posts for permitting tourist activities to restart between the countries.
Due to its international tourist dependency, Zimbabwe has been the hardest hit with hospitality industry, with the sector estimated to have lost at least 1 billion U.S. dollars in potential revenue in 2020.
However, now with the successful vaccination in the resort town, tourism players are hopeful that the tourism and hospitality industries will come back to normalcy.
