Education & skill development was the focus of UNWTO summit!

UNWTO welcomed 40 Tourism Ministers in a Summit and created a record at WTM London 2023, representing many countries of different sizes, Natalia Bayona, Executive Director, highlighted the significance of investing behind education.


The Summit for the 17th time was arranged at WTM London, which emphasized the inputs from the significant players related to the private sector and from co-organizer of WTTC.


With 1.2 billion people aged between 15 to 24 years globally, UNWTO believes that tourism can easily become the best employer when it comes to youth and work as the best motivator of youth authorization. However, according to the Office for Economic Cooperation and Development, roughly 10% of the population are suffering from unemployment and 14% has only basic education.


Outlining the way UNWTO is currently moving forward in terms of enthusing and introducing tourism education, Bayona, the Executive Director, said about the importance to expand education and skill to help the youth at every stage. UNWTO in October 2023 introduced its first Education Toolkit. The radical resource will permit the countries to implement tourism course as a high school subject.


Bachelor’s Degree in Sustainable Tourism Management provided by UNWTO will start from 2024, and the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts will take in its first batch of students on the above discipline.
