Edinburgh’s young influencers press on digital tourism

Online influencers are being hired to boost up young travelers numbers to Edinburgh.

In the Scottish capital city, the first of its kind campaign expects to reach 3.5 million people all over Europe as it connects two people at a time, one from Edinburgh and one from another city like Barcelona or Amsterdam, who exchange images on social media all the year through.

 
The first are Edinburgh-based Davide Verri and Nicanor Garcia from Barcelona, with a combined Instagram following of around 740,000. They share an interest in culturally significant architecture.

 
To quote Pete Duncan, chair of Youth Travel Edinburgh, “This campaign is a fantastic collaboration by Edinburgh’s tourism industry and a great opportunity for the city to position itself as the leading UK youth travel destination that can be enjoyed on a year-round basis.”

 
The #UncoverEdinburgh campaign, headed by Youth Travel Edinburgh and aided by the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group and Marketing Edinburgh, is keen on profiling the capital of Scotland as a top youth tourism destination and has attracted a £40,000 VisitScotland Growth Fund award from the national tourism organisation.

 
It is all set to encourage visitors age between 18-26 years from the main European markets to come to Edinburgh all through the year by pairing an Edinburgh influencer with an influencer sharing a similar special interest.

 
In global tourism, youth travel is the most rapid growing segments and Edinburgh is second only to London in terms of young visitors to the UK, almost two million of the city’s visitors come into the millennial age bracket.
