Malaysia Airlines Launches Maiden Flights to Amritsar and Trivandrum

Malaysia Airlines marked the inaugural flights connecting Kuala Lumpur (KUL) to Amritsar (ATQ) and Trivandrum (TRV) with a send-off event at KLIA Terminal 1 on November 8 and 9, 2023, respectively. Flight MH118, headed for ATQ, departed from KUL at 6:50 pm local time, while flight MH116, bound for TRV, took off from KUL at 9:30 pm local time. Both flights received a water salute upon arrival at their respective destination airports. The operations were conducted using Malaysia Airlines’ Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft.


To celebrate this significant milestone, passengers departing from KUL were treated to special goodies at the departure gate. The send-off event was attended by key figures, including Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines at Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG); Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar, Chief Operating Officer of Malaysia Airlines; and Dersenish Aresandiran, Chief Commercial Officer of Airlines at MAG. Senior officials from MAG and Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) also participated in the event.


Ahmad Luqman Mohd Azmi, Chief Executive Officer of Airlines from MAG expressed that Malaysia Airlines considers the Indian market a cornerstone of its strategic vision, placing great importance on fostering strong connections and expanding its presence in this key region.


He adds, “ For Amritsar and Trivandrum, we proudly hold the distinction of being the first full-service premium carrier to offer flights to South Asia and the Pacific. The expansion of our routes to India goes beyond mere connectivity, as this effort yields a range of positive outcomes, from driving economic growth, to boosting tourism, nurturing cultural exchange, and facilitating global collaboration.”


With the addition of two (2) new routes, Malaysia Airlines can now connect Kuala Lumpur, India, to eight (8) major hubs, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi. Malaysia Airlines is committed to improving connectivity, and in December of this year, it will start offering service to Ahmedebad (AMD).
