According to Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), Indonesia, the Mandalika Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is currently among the world’s top sports tourism destinations.
“The Mandalika zone is in a very good stage. Most MotoGP fans can recognize Mandalika, and we are seeing an improvement in the flow of international and domestic tourists,” he expounded at a MotoGP press conference here on Tuesday.
He stated that Mandalika, which is located in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara, is now known to both local and foreign tourists as the site of the World Superbike and MotoGP competitions.Other national and international sporting events staged in Mandalika included the Shell Eco Marathon, the L’Etape cycle race, the TNI Marathon, and a variety of water sports activities.
Furthermore, the deputy minister stated that Mandalika has a variety of marine tourism attractions such as beautiful beaches and underwater tourism.
He stated that the growing popularity of the Mandalika SEZ is aided by solid infrastructure like as roads, transit, hotels, and restaurants.
He stated that attempts to increase the area’s attractiveness have been backed by all parties, including the government, tourism attraction management authorities, investors, and people.
“Hopefully, the MotoGP will be a catalyst to build sports tourism destinations and provide economic benefits for the community, especially in West Nusa Tenggara,” he added.
On the same day, Ari Respati, President Director of the state-owned Indonesia Tourism Development Center (ITDC), stated that his organization is working on developing Mandalika as a sports tourism destination through initiatives such as hosting the MotoGP Mandalika 2023 event.
“The MotoGP event in Mandalika turned out to be an icon and pride of the locals. This is proof of succeeding the government’s mandate,” he said.
He further stressed that ITDC, as a subsidiary of the state-owned holding company InJourney, is working to develop Mandalika in a sustainable manner.
