New study from Oxford Economics has discovered that Airbnb is an essential mainstay of India’s tourism
segment, adding more than $920 million to Gross Domestic Product and backing more than 85,000
Indian jobs last year itself.
The contribution in GDP and employments backed in India has more than doubled from the time of 2019
notwithstanding the pandemic and global border constraints. The study also emphasized the dominant
multiplier influence that Airbnb visitor expenditure has within domestic communities. Last year, Airbnb visitors spent a sum of $815 million in India in ranges like purchases on conveyance, restaurants and
merchandizing stores. Visitor spending last year more than doubled compared to the levels of 2019.
In India, Airbnb’s existence was the maximum in Goa, where Airbnb visitor expenditure increased to nearly
$190 million. This was followed by Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai and Manali. It specifies the important
contribution made by Airbnb visitors toward local tourism all over India. Last year, local Airbnb visitor
expenditure totaled $670 million, accounting for around 82 per cent of entire Airbnb visitor spending in India, marking a three-fold upsurge from 2019.
