A succession of fires has left trades devastated and scratched before Kangaroo Island’s crowning tourism
period.

The latest fire happened last week at Kingscote, impacting a butcher’s shop and two restaurants.
The blaze was a reigniting of an early blaze that is thought to be caused by an electrical error happening last Sunday.

The newest fire has left the Lighthouse Cafe and the butcher shattered. Adjacent Cafe Scrumptious was
required to momentarily shut down owing to smoke damage.

The new projected destruction amount is thought to be $1 million, and the reigniting’s reason is uncertain.

It comes after another blaze at the Seaview Motel in Kingscote in the month of August which demolished the business’s The Odd Plate restaurant, creating a $500,000 destruction charge, with the reason believed
to be unintended.

Previously in June, the Shy Wren restaurant caught fire at Penneshaw, with the structure and substances
reflected a total damage with a $1 million injury ount. After the surveys, the blaze’s reason was considered
non-suspicious.

Michael Pengilly, Kangaroo Island Council Mayor said that the blaze proved to be a catastrophe for business owners.
