Mildura Rural City Council is steering in a new era for the development of financial and tourism sector in their region after the Councillors in September permitted a new model to provide these functions.
The Economic and Tourism Development Framework highlights two independent advisory boards, all committed toward the growth of tourism and financial system respectively.
These boards will lead the strategic direction, as the Strategy and Growth department of the Council will take on the operational functions presently being offered by Mildura Regional Development.
Liam Wood, Mildura Mayor, said that confirmation of the agenda after an independent inspection of methods to offering financial and tourism opportunities.
Cr Wood said that this was a significant procedure to look at the role being played by the local government in delivering these important functions in other municipalities all over Victoria.
It unveiled through benchmarking of Councils of similar-size that in majority of cases accountability for financial development and tourism falls on local government.
Also, the Mayor said it has examined the way the Council has worked with Mildura Regional Development, stressing on the opportunities for better collaboration.
Cr Wood also said that for many years, the Council and Mildura Regional Development have enjoyed a strong partnership, getting even stronger in the last 12 months.
