The thunderstorms are set to sweep across Scotland, as an urgent weather warning is issued. The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunder and heavy rain which is set to batter the country.

It warns thunderstorms are forecast to hit the Strathclyde, Lothian and Borders, Highlands & Eilean Siar, Grampian, Central, Tayside & Fife and south west Scotland regions.

The warning also covers most parts of the UK including east and southwest of England, east midlands and London.

A separate yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has also been issued for Monday from noon until 9pm.

Police are expecting a ‘high risk of interference’ to travel across the country later this week as the heavy snow brushes in and pave the way for temperatures not seen for nearly a decade.

Scattered showers and thunderstorms will move in across most of the country – with only the east coast and areas around Aberdeen avoiding it.

The alert is in place from noon today and is set to end at around 9pm tonight.

And it is set to cause some travel disruption and there is also a small chance that homes and businesses could be damaged.

This is likely to cause delays and some cancellations to train and bus services while some roads could be forced to close.
